GFIS is a Computer Aided Design (CAD) based tool for managing vast amounts of spatial information. It allows for centralised access to a wide range of geographical information concerning a given location.
The benefits of GFIS are:
- Reduction of risk; when contractors know the location of under-ground services there is far less chance they will be damaged when excavated.
- Fast diagnosis on failures of underground systems as well as accurate direction to ensuring their rapid shut down or reinstatement.
- As a planning tool to assist in development of future stages and renovations to existing developments.
Datasets in GFIS include:
- Water Reticulation
- Sormwater Systems
- Sewerage Reticulation
- Telephony
- Irrigation
- Topographic
- Electricity
- CATV
- Street Furniture
- Landscape Assets
- Mechanical Ventilation
- Structures (Bridges, Buildings, etc)
